Kunming

Flight was delayed in Chengdu for several hours including over 1 hour sitting on the runway and the planewas freezing and they ran out of blankets. We were greeted at airport by David. All our guides have found us easily as we are very easy to spot in the crowds. All of our drivers have been older men with no english. Many Chinese find it fashionable to have western names. All our guides have had western names. We had Sunny Alex Michael Michael David And Rose.

We went to lunch when we arri ved in KUnming and got to our hotel by 330 A few months ago I met an American family from Denver with an adopted daughter from kunming living in Kunming and teaching English here. We made plans for dinner with them. They happened to live within walking distance to our hotel and in a city of 7 mil that's pretty interesting They took us to a great pub style western restaurant that was awesome. Jen and BRians daughter is Leela and she is 6 and enrolled in school here. We had so much to talk about it was awesome.
The next morning we headed to Kunming Social Welfare Institute Our agency got clearance for Powers family to come along. They had never been before. We combined gifts for the kids and directors and nannies. My dentist gave me 100 toothbrushes and toothpaste. We brought candy perfume deoderants make up and school books and toys. We were greater by a young lady who I recognized as the person who brought all the kids to us 10 years ago. She remembered Maggie by her name and birthmark on her face. We toured parts of the facility which was clean and modern. We saw up to 50 babies many with disabilities and many just perfect. We played with a set of girl twins about 5 months old. At KSWI there are 100 kids housed there and 500 Kids in foster care. China has slowed down adoption significantly in the last 10 years. We brought pics that nannies took for me 10 years ago and gave me when I got Maggie. We got to meet with her primary Nannie who was happy to see her and remembered her. She asked me for the pics and I also gave her pics of Maggie and her dance troupe. They seemed happy Maggie studies chinese and dance The building Maggie used to live in was stll on site but damaged in the earthquake in 2009 180 miles away so no longer used. Jen had less success in locating nannies who took care of Leela but they will try again before they leave Kunming this summer. We were pleased with the visit as parents but the kids were a litle bit "off" I would say. I believe Maggie needs some time to process. She was figedy and clingy and as the day progressed developed "pain in her legs" and other small ailments. She was fine by the next am
